Homework and completed reading logs are due on Fridays. Children receive a sticker for their rewards chart for completed homework, plus one sticker for every 80 minutes they read!
The purpose of homework in second grade is to review skills taught in class. Reading logs and weekly math homework will be sent home on Fridays and are due back the following Friday in the children's blue back-and-forth folder. Children should read a minimum of 80 minutes each week (including weekends), fill in their reading logs, and return them to school on Fridays. Students should do one sheet of math homework each night. It is important NOT to work ahead of the class. Otherwise, math homework is no longer a review it becomes new learning.
It is the responsibility of the student and parent to make sure all work is completed. Parents are to check all work and make sure that students do the appropriate review and reading. Please sign the homework packet and return it encourage your child to class completed each Friday. In second grade, we focus on independence and responsibility.
We ask you to contact the classroom teacher if you find that a student is struggling and does not appear to understand the homework.
Our goals for homework are simple... Set study habits and read, read, read!
