Welcome to Second Grade!
Ms. Derre, Mrs. Jaynes, Ms. Breen, Ms. Berner
Hello everyone! I encourage you to explore our class website and familiarize yourself with our class procedures, policies, etc.
2nd Grade Policies:
Homework: Students will be sent home with a packet of homework each Friday. They are expected to return the completed packet on the following Friday. Homework is intended to serve as a review for what we've learned in class.
Volunteering: Once our year gets started, I will notify you of specific volunteer opportunities. I will email the sign up links. I will have volunteer spots available for reading groups.
Class Snacks: We will have snack time once in the morning, and an optional snack in the afternoon. Of course, I encourage you to send your child with healthy snacks. Children will not be permitted to trade with each other. As of this year, CHVE is not allowing birthday treats in order to promote healthy eating. Please feel free to send your child with a water bottle that they can keep on their desk all day. NOTE: We do have severe nut allergies in class, so if you are bringing birthday treats, please make sure they are not manufactured in a facility that processes nuts! Thank you!
Leaving Early: If your child is leaving early, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you send a written note from home or notify the office. If for some reason I have a substitute, they may not be able to access my email or voicemail. Therefor, the best way to notify me of your child's early dismissal is by written note in their back-and-forth folder or a phone call to the office.
Absences- Please be sure to notify the attendance line of your child's absence. The number to call is 720-747-2795.
Back-and-Forth Folders: You will see your child's light blue back-and-forth folder come home every single day (even when it is empty). In second grade, we believe in the importance of teaching responsibility. Please encourage your child to take his or her folder out of the backpack each afternoon, and return it to the backpack every morning. Once in class, I will ask the students if anyone has notes for me, and they will be responsible for checking their folders for any turn-in work or notes.
